It is important for all of us to remain active and eat well balanced meals for good overall health. However, it is even more important for athletes because they are burning up calories faster, and need more nutrients to help stay healthy and in shape. Some nutrition tips for athletes may include:
- Stay well hydrated before, during, and after work outs. This will help the body stay in good working order and help you to keep moving
- eat enough calories and carbohydrates to help fight fatigue, injuries and a decrease in performance
- Eat enough protein to help the body repair muscle tissues and to help further limit injuries
- Fad diets and certain supplements should be avoided unless consulting with a doctor first
- Get plenty of rest to make sure performance and focus are at their best
